Court dismisses Rosneft suit against Transneft over Druzhba incident

MOSCOW, Nov 20 (PRIME) -- The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal has terminated proceedings on a suit of oil major Rosneft against oil pipeline monopoly Transneft over a 2019 contamination of oil in the Druzhba export pipeline, as seen by PRIME on Monday in the register of arbitration cases.

Transneft undertook the obligation to compensate financial damages of up to U.S. $15 per barrel to the oil companies. All large Russian oil firms settled their disputes quickly, except Rosneft that took a long time to agree on the sum of compensations with some of its foreign clients. The statute of limitations on the compensation expired in May 2022, and Rosneft filed a suit against Transneft demanding redemption of 11.9 billion rubles of losses.

In December 2022, the Moscow Arbitration Court turned down Rosneft’s suit, but the company appealed against the decision.

The materials of the Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal say that Rosneft filed a request to the court rejecting the suit.

Kommersant business daily said in September that Rosneft and Transneft settled their court dispute over contamination.
